Phillips Chapel The Canterbury School: Greensboro, NC

The Phillips Chapel doubles as the religious space for Canterbury School an independent pre-K through 8th grade school in Greensborough, North Carolina. We began work on the chapel in 1998 with then Head of School Chip Bristol.

Mr Anthony's design Statement:

Chip and I shared a vision of a rebirth of good design in the American church. It had been many years since the Episcopal church led the country in the design quality of its churches. Chip envisioned a return to that sense of a powerful, timeless and understated grace.

The combination of brick from North Carolina clay trimmed in Indiana limestone recalls the timelessness of the first and second waves of American Gothic architecture.
